Vietnam's 10th CPV central committee convenes ninth meeting

HANOI, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- The ninth meeting of the 10th Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee opened in Hanoi Monday, Vietnam News Agency reported. The meeting is scheduled to review the implementation of the resolution of the 10th Party Congress for the 2006-2008 period, the first half of the term, and the CPV central committee's resolutions on fighting corruption and wastefulness, and on personnel strategy. CPV Central Committee General Secretary Nong Duc Manh at the meeting called on the whole Party, all the Vietnamese people and the army to seize opportunities to overcome challenges and strove their best to implement the solution of the 10th Party Congress and gained many positive achievements. Many targets set by the 10th Party Congress have been met or nearly obtained, Manh said. But he added that Vietnam is still faced with difficulties in socio-economic development. Manh urged the meeting to look at the situation to assess the implementation of the resolution of the 10th Party Congress in the first half of its term. He called for intensive study to resolve outstanding matters, such as the relations between growth and development quality, rapid growth and sustainable development, economic development and social welfare and equality, economic renewal and renovation of the political system, renewal and stability, and the self-reliance and global economic integration. The lessons learned from realities are not only significant to the remaining half of the term but also necessary for the Party in deciding orientations for the national renewal process and development in the future, the leader said. He asked members of the Party Central Committees to take a responsible attitude towards their work, attach importance on intelligence and uphold the spirit of democracy, creativeness, strict criticism and self-criticism in their work. The meeting will run until Jan. 14.
